Poller Keeps Going Down

The polling service runs quietly in the background on your T&A server gathering clockings as employees use the hardware devices around site (or mobile apps). In some situations you may encounter the polling service stopping and restarting continuously. There are number of checks that you can make to safeguard the smooth running of the service.

Let's check the Local Security Policies of the User MFSERVICE. This account is used by the polling service to authenticate itself when it needs to read/write to the server file system. In Windows, whilst logged into the T&A server where the polling service is running, open Administrative Tools and select Local Security Policy

There are 3 Policies to check:

- Log on as a batch job

- Log on as a service

- Replace a process level token

Make sure the the MFSERVICE user is added to each Policy.

You should now be able to restart the poller service. You may also experience this issue with the processing service, which you will see in the service list next to the polling service. Both services use the same account (MFSERVICE) for authentication, so there is no need to make any alterations if your processing service is behaving as the poller - the changes above will apply to both services, after they have been restarted.
